Should Unai Emery make this former player his first Arsenal signing?

After what seems like an age, Arsenal have finally announced that their new manager and man to replace club legend Arsene Wenger will be Unai Emery.

Welcome to Arsenal

Arsenal made the official announcement via their Twitter earlier today.

New signings

Now that Emery has officially been named Arsenal boss, there is no doubt he will be keen to start putting his own personal touch on this Arsenal side.

Plus, given Arsenal’s poor performances in recent years, which eventually lead to Wenger’s departure, it is clear this Arsenal side is in need of a serious overhaul.

So, given that Emery has managed many top players at big clubs such as Sevilla and PSG, we could well see some of Emery’s ex-players joining him in North London this summer.

Julian Draxler

One player who could very well make the switch to the Emirates is Julian Draxler. The German is currently at Ligue 1 side PSG, which is the club Emery has just left.

Since moving to PSG from Schalke Draxler has never really been able to tie down a first-team spot.

However, during the 2017/18 season under Emery, Draxler was able to make a total of 47 appearances for PSG in all competitions.

During those games, Draxler managed five goals and 10 assists. The German international also showed his flexibility as throughout the 2017/18 season he played CAM, left wing, right wing and centre midfield.

Being able to play all of those positions is a very impressive trait to have. And given Arsenal do need to strengthen pretty much all over the pitch, signing someone like Draxler who can play across all of the midfield would be an excellent decision by the Gunners.

Draxler would also link up well with fellow German international Ozil at Arsenal. Also, given that Neymar is back from injury, Draxler’s playing time at PSG could once again be limited. Making his move to North London look even more likely.
